Mini-symposium on “Missions to Asteroids & Asteroid Manipulation Technologies”
The mini-symposium on Missions to Asteroids & Asteroid Manipulation Technologies will be organized within the Stardust Final Conference on Asteroids and Space Debris, which will be held at ESA-ESTEC (The Netherlands), 31st October - 4th November, 2016.
The mini-symposium will take place over two days (31st October and 1st November), and will focus on the design of missions to explore, exploit and manipulate asteroids and the required technologies to successfully complete these missions. It will consist of two sessions entitled: ”Missions to Asteroids" and "Asteroid Manipulation Technologies". The aim of each session is to review the-state-of-the-art of the corresponding lines of research, but also to present ongoing projects, and to discuss directions for the future developments.
Main Topics:
Session 1: Missions to Asteroids
- Mission analysis and trajectory design
- Current and planned missions to asteroid
- System and payload design
- New science and exploration mission concepts
- Deflection mission scenarios
- Asteroid exploitation scenarios
- Proximity operations
Session 2: Asteroid Manipulation Technologies
- Asteroid deflection concepts
- System design and integration
- Experimental analysis
- Asteroid rotation control
- Technology demonstrators
