Mini-symposium on “Asteroids” (pdf)

The mini-symposium on asteroids will be organized within the Stardust Final Conference on Asteroids and Space Debris, held at ESA-ESTEC (The Netherlands), 31st October - 4th November, 2016.

The mini-symposium will take place over two days (31st October and 1st November), and will focus on Collision among Solar System objects. It will consist of two sessions entitled: "Collision rates and impact risks" and "Asteroid origins and characterization". The aim of each session is to review the-state-of-the-art of the corresponding lines of research, but also to present ongoing projects, and to discuss directions for the future developments.

•  Methods for asteroid orbit determination

Session 2: Asteroid Origins and Characterization

• Asteroid taxonomic classifications
• Internal structure of asteroids
• The near-Earth asteroid population models
• Origins of near-Earth asteroids
• Double and multiple asteroids (theory and observations)
