In France, the sociology of work has undergone critical evolution since the eighties. This has seen a rich diversification of object of study including a greater attention to the role of qualitative methodology. This has indisputable advantages, as new fields of enquiry have opened up. Yet, there are also limits signaled by a relative stagnation of debates and the controversial rise of a form of ‘terrorism’ of empiricism.
